المملكة: Prince Faisal bin Khalid Centre.. The success of the first precise operation to expand the trunk of the aorta

A medical team at the Prince Faisal bin Khalid Heart Center, one of the components of the Asir Health Cluster, was able to perform a precise and qualitative surgical operation to expand and reconstruct the aortic trunk of the heart of a 32-year-old patient.
The association explained that the patient suffered repeated fainting due to severe narrowing of the aortic valve, and examinations showed an almost complete blockage of the valve with large calcium deposits, which prevented the installation of any artificial valve.

Add a large texture patch

The medical team led by Dr. Khaled Samir managed to expand the aortic trunk by adding a large tissue patch to accommodate a valve that fit the patient’s body, and the surgery was crowned with success.

The patient was removed from ventilators after only two hours, and she left the intensive care unit in less than 24 hours.

Heart valve surgery program

The association reported the launch of a heart valve surgery program to eliminate waiting lists, and 14 valve replacement or repair operations were performed within a month and a half, which is the highest rate in the Kingdom currently.
The center also began implementing an open-heart surgery program without blood transfusion or its derivatives, and several successful operations were performed according to this program.
