The Foreign Minister meets with the President of the European Council in Brussels

He met Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, with Mr. Antonio Costa The President of the European Council, during his visit to Brussels on Sunday evening, January 19, 2025. The ceasefire in Gaza, and in supporting security and stability in the Middle East, stressing that Egypt is an important partner of the European Union.
For his part, Minister Abdel Aty praised The positive developments witnessed in relations with the European Union since the visit of the President of the European Commission to Cairo on March 17, 2024 and the issuance of the joint declaration on upgrading relations to the strategic and comprehensive partnership between Egypt and the European Union, and welcomed the success of the investment conference held in June 2024 in Cairo as one of the first major events of the partnership. The strategy contributed to encouraging the European private sector to invest in Egypt, and was keen to emphasize the importance that Egypt attaches to the full implementation of all aspects of the strategic partnership.
Also, Minister Abdel Aty welcomed the European financial package presented to Egypt, the disbursement of the first tranche worth one billion euros, and stressed the aspiration to support the President of the European Council in quickly adopting the second tranche worth 4 billion euros. He also touched on joint cooperation in the field of immigration and the importance of linking immigration to development and addressing the root causes of illegal immigration, by supporting economic and social development, highlighting the challenges and burdens that Egypt bears in light of its hosting more than 10 million foreigners.
The meeting touched on successive regional developments, most notably the situation in the Gaza Strip, where Minister Abdel Aty reviewed Egypt’s tireless efforts with both Qatar and the United States to reach a cessation agreement. Fire in the Gaza Strip and the exchange of hostages and prisoners, highlighting the importance of the parties to the agreement adhering to its provisions and implementing it according to the specified stages and dates. He expressed his hope that the implementation of the agreement would lead to an increased pace of access and safe distribution of humanitarian aid on a broader scale throughout the Gaza Strip, calling on the European Union to support the humanitarian effort, provide aid to the Strip, and begin early recovery projects in preparation for reconstruction.
Minister Abdel-Aty also addressed the determinants of the Egyptian position on developments in Syria, Sudan, Somalia and the Horn of Africa region, and reviewed the dimensions of the Egyptian water security issue, stressing that it is an issue that does not… Be negligent about it.
