“Museums” start open monthly meetings to highlight their efforts in developing the sector
The meeting provided an opportunity to present the role of the authority, its responsibilities, achievements and future prospects.
The role of the authority and discussing the most prominent topics
Dr. Jana Jabour, Director of the Communication and Information Department at the Authority, was conducted, noting that this meeting represents a start for a series of monthly open meetings, which aims to provide a detailed image of the authority’s work and its role in developing the sector, discussing the most prominent topics related to museums, and exchanging local experiences And international.
The meeting started His Excellency the Advisor to the Ministry of Culture, Mona Khazandar, with a welcome speech in which she shed light on the vision of the ministry and the authority, stressing that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was and still is a cradle for Arab civilization and a meeting place for culture The cultural scene.
Khazandar indicated that the Museums Authority, which was established in 2019 as one of the cultural bodies of the Ministry of Culture, plays a pivotal role in leading the museums sector in the Kingdom, and preserving and documenting the cultural and historical national heritage for future generations.
The authority also seeks to enhance the artistic scene and create an environment that embraces new forms of artistic expression.
Museum experiences enhance national identity
She emphasized that the role of the authority is not limited to the establishment and operation of museums, but also includes providing influential museum experiences that enhance the national identity and contribute to future cultural development, by converting museums into centers for preserving national memory, laboratories for creativity, and open spaces for all. It also stressed that the Kingdom continues to progress in the march of cultural transformation, and that the authority is working to support local artists and enable them to display their works in museums and exhibitions that put Saudi art in a prominent site on the global map.
For his part, Ibrahim Al -Senussi, Director General for the Development of Museums and Cultural Assets, reviewed the most prominent existing museums that the authority is working to establish, explaining that the General Administration for the Development of Museums is not only limited to the establishment of new museums, but also focuses on developing them in terms of content and architectural design according to international standards, To reflect Saudi Arabia’s local stories and stories.
Museums are subject to the supervision of the authority
Al -Senussi revealed 24 museums supervised by the authority, including open museums such as the Al -Masmak Palace Museum, the National Museum, the Saudi Museum of Contemporary Art in Jax, the Tariq Abdel Hakim Museum in historical Jeddah, the Diriyah Center for Future Arts, and another under construction, most notably the World Cultures Museum in The Royal Academy of Arts in the King Salman Park in Riyadh, and a group of regional museums tells the story of each region of the Kingdom and comes under the name of “Our Saudi Square”.
While Khaled Baasiri, Director General of Partnerships and Business Development at the Authority, dealt with the role of this public administration in enhancing cooperation and building partnerships with local and international bodies, and with the public and private sectors and the dust of Al -Rabhi, to develop and empower the museums sector in the Kingdom and create a pleasant visitor and highlight the Saudi identity.
He explained that the authority has concluded several local agreements, including with the Persons with Disabilities Care and with Al -Faisal University, as well as international partnerships, including the Treenali Foundation in Italy, the Chinese National Museum, the Shanghai Museum, and others.
Licensing and experience of education in museums
In turn, Brehan Ketbi, Director of the Licensing Department at the Authority, explained the mechanism of private museums to obtain licenses, and explained the adequate application to obtain the license through the platform ““ Create ”of the Ministry of Culture, according to specific requirements and controls, with a license period for the museum of up to three years.
As for Dr. Taghreed Al -Sarraj, Director of the Education and Talent Development Department, she touched on the importance of the educational experience within museums, noting that the authority is working to design educational programs, raise the competencies of Saudi cadres, and develop academic programs, including the Higher Diploma Program in the Museum Studies in cooperation with the University “In London, the universities of Effat, and Imam Abdul Rahman bin Faisal.
At the end of the meeting, the discussion was opened to attend to present their inquiries and interventions on various issues related to the development of the museums sector.
This meeting comes within the series of open meetings, provided by the Museums Authority with the aim of enhancing communication with the stakeholders, interest and interested, in addition to raising awareness of the authority’s efforts and strategies aimed at developing the museum sector.
