The launch of the eleventh session of the Khorfakkan Theater Festival

Khor Fakkan, 25 January / WAM / The Sharjah Department of Culture organized the eleventh session of the “Khor Fakkan Theater Festival” in the city park, in the presence of His Excellency Abdullah Al Owais, Chairman of the Department, Ahmed Burahima, Director of the Department’s Theater Department, and many theater and drama artists, amid a wide audience turnout.

The festival began with a massive festive march that began at four in the afternoon from the city center to the park, presented by a military music band, horsemen, folk arts performers, circus and puppet shows, and old vehicles competing in the most beautiful car competition, in addition to school and scout groups.

The festival activities began with the presentation of “The Art of Al-Ayyala” at the “Red Theater,” and two performances from the last session of the Sharjah School Theater Festival were presented at the “Blue Theater,” namely: the play “Mice’s Dreams” by Atika Bint Zaid School, and the play “The Promise of Loyalty” by Al-Aqad Al-Farid School. The play “Misunderstanding”, directed by Heba Deeb, was also presented at the “Blue Theater”, and it is one of the plays of the last session of the Kalba Short Play Festival.

The “Red Theater” witnessed a series of acrobatic performances, then the Sharjah Scout Commission troupe presented its play “The Road” on the “Green Theater,” which won several awards in the thirteenth session of the Sharjah Scout Theater Festival.

The audience also subsequently watched a performance segment of “Fan Al Dan”, followed by the “Princess of the Festival” competition for women, in which they competed to design and display the most beautiful and strangest theatrical costumes. The winners were announced on the “Green Theater”, and their prizes were awarded to: Samah Al-Zubair, Mahra Magdy, and Mansa Ekramy Ahmed.

In the “Bride of the Festival” competition, directed at young girls under the age of fourteen, which was organized at the “Blue Theater,” the prizes went to: Mahra Faisal Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Subha Ahmed Khamis, and Maryam Salem Khamis Musabih. In the mask competition, Abdullah Majed Nasser, Muhammad Adel Rajab, and Amr Tariq Al-Tayeb won the award, while Saba Abdul Qayyum, Imran Al-Buqish, Raya Nasser Rashid, Saud Jassim, and Yousef Khoda won the old car competition.

The festival witnessed a group of popular performances from the Emirates, Egypt, India, and Africa, which were presented successively on the “Red Theater.” The audience also watched the play that won the “Best Integrated Theatrical Show” award in the nineteenth session of the Emirates Children’s Theater Festival, which is the play “The Kingdom of Ilira,” produced by the “Khor Fakkan Arts Theater” and directed by the artist Abdullah Al-Huraibi, and shown on the “Blue Theater.”

The festival’s activities concluded with the public theatrical performance “Awal Liqa”, starring Juma Ali and a group of artists, directed by Muhammad Jumaa, and presented on the “Blue Theater.”

The Khorfakkan Theater Festival was established in January 2014 to be organized annually in the coastal city, which is distinguished by its diverse tourism potential. It is considered the largest interactive artistic event organized in an open space over the course of one day.

The performing and visual arts, traditional and modern, meet in the festival, and together they paint a captivating, creative picture amidst the city’s picturesque natural landscape, in which theater blends with popular spectacle, parades, folk music, and live experiences of coloring and decoration shows.
