المملكة: Production exceeds 691 thousand tons .. 76% self -sufficiency of tomatoes

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture confirmed that the Kingdom’s production of tomatoes reached more than (691,875) thousand tons during the year 2023 AD, achieving a self -sufficiency rate of (76%), which reflects the great development in the agricultural sector, and its ability to meet the local need.
She explained during the campaign “Our trip from our land” that the amount of tomato production in open farms exceeded (392.294) thousand tons, while the amount of production in the greenhouses exceeded (299,581) thousand tons; To reflect its continuous efforts in developing the vegetable sector and meeting the increasing demand during the month of Ramadan, which contributes to supporting food security in the Kingdom.

The Ministry urged farmers to adopt modern agricultural methods, in a way that contributes to improving the quality of production and increasing its efficiency, by supporting them and encouraging the use of advanced technologies such as greenhouses and water agriculture, which contribute to raising productivity and reducing water consumption, in a way that enhances agricultural sustainability, and supports food security in the Kingdom.

She called on consumers to rely on the local product within the campaign launched by the ministry during the month of Ramadan, with its high quality and food value, noting the importance of reducing food waste, as consumption rates increase in the holy month.
It is reported that the ministry is working to support local products; To contribute to achieving food sustainability, promoting the national economy, as well as continuing its efforts in developing the agricultural sector and enhancing food security, in line with the targets of Vision 2030.
