Amna Al -Dahhak: Low carbon water desalination is an essential pillar in our national strategy

Abu Dhabi on March 22/ WAM/ His Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al -Dahhak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment: With our celebration of International Water Day, we stand at the moment of meditation in what this vital resource constitutes of great importance, as it is the lifestyle of our planet where today 2.2 billion people – one in every four – suffer from the world, from depriving clean and safe water. She added: This fact requires us to enhance our commitment to the sustainable water management and work to ensure a sustainable water future for all. ”

Her Excellency continued in a statement on this occasion: “The topic of this year is focused – the protection of the ice rivers – the fact that these environmental systems, despite their geographical dimension, are closely related to our national water security in the UAE … with global temperatures and climate changes, the ice escapes lost more than 6,500 billion tons – which is equivalent to 5% – from its ice, since the beginning of the century, which is an inconceivable melting rate It poses a serious threat to the future of water resources. ”

Her Excellency emphasized that the UAE is aware of the global consequences of the disappearance of icebergs, as this affects food security and economic stability, and it speeds up the rise in sea level. From this standpoint, its Excellency affirmed that the UAE is committed to the sustainable water management, as the Emirates Strategy for Climate Neutrality leads the 2050 march of the country towards reducing emissions, while the UAE water security strategy is 2036 its efforts towards an integrated water resources management, with the aim of reducing the total demand for water by 21% and enhancing the efficiency of its use across various sectors.

Her Excellency said: “In order to strengthen this commitment, and based on the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, the UAE addresses the challenges of global water scarcity through the Mohammed bin Zayed water initiative, which aims to increase awareness, accelerate innovation, and enhance cooperation to ensure a sustainable water future.

Her Excellency continued: “Low carbon water desalination is an essential pillar in our national strategy, as we give priority to the sustainable reverse osmosis technology. And as an affirmation of this commitment, Abu Dhabi hosts the Towelle Station for reverse osmosis – which is part of the long complex of water and electricity and will become the largest opposite osger facility in the world when it is completely operating, with the goal of reaching 90% of production. The water sweetened with this technology by 2030. In line with this ambition, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority aims to produce 100% of the desalinated water from a mixture of clean energy that combines renewable energy sources and heat wasted by the same year.

His Excellency Dr. Al -Dahhak indicated that the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment leads advanced agricultural technology projects to reduce water consumption in strategic ways, which enhances an integrated approach to water security. Her Excellency concluded: “While we celebrate the International Water Day during the holy month of Ramadan, let us renew our commitment to water -responsible consumption in our society, and we strengthen our contributions to global initiatives aimed at protecting our precious water resources. Every small step leaves an impact, and together we can achieve great success in ensuring water security for our planet. We must always realize that the water crisis is in its essence a crisis Climate. Through the firm commitment to joint action, we can avoid this crisis, protect our precious water resources, and ensure a sustainable future for future generations.
