المملكة: Washington and Kiev Tamman are an agreement to exploit minerals and reconstruction

Washington and Kiev on Wednesday signed a wide economic agreement to establish an investment fund for war -torn Ukraine, and gives US President Donald Trump’s administration access to Ukrainian natural resources.

This agreement comes in parallel with multilateral diplomatic negotiations taking place to find a solution to the continuous conflict between Russia and Ukraine 3 years ago.

Historical Agreement

“I am pleased to announce today the signing of the historic economic partnership agreement” with Ukraine, “US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a video message.

“In cooperation with the United States, we are working to create this fund, which will attract global investments to our country,” said Ukrainian Minister of Economy, Yulia Sferidinko, after signing the agreement in Washington.

She added in a Facebook post, that the agreement will allow financing “projects to extract minerals, oil and gas” in Ukraine.

Sfiridinko stressed that “the document in its current form is a success guarantee for our municipalities – Ukraine and the United States,” stressing at the same time that her country will retain “ownership and full control” on its natural resources, including those in the ground, and that “the Ukrainian state will be the one who determines where and what will be extracted.”

A reconstruction investment fund

The US Treasury said that the United States and Ukraine signed an agreement to establish a “investment fund for reconstruction”.

The ministry added in a statement, “in recognition of the great financial and material support provided by the people of the United States to Ukraine since the Russian invasion, this economic partnership puts our two countries in a situation that allows them to cooperate and invest together to ensure that our assets, talents and capabilities can work to accelerate the rebuilding of the economy in Ukraine,” without providing details about the content of the agreement.

Prior to the signing of the agreement, Trump said the United States wanted something in exchange for its efforts with Ukraine.

“We have chosen rare minerals, they have very good minerals.”
