An Emirati initiative to establish a Gulf Ski Union

Vilamura -Portugal on May 8/ WAM/ The UAE submitted a proposal to establish a Gulf skiing federation, during its participation in the annual meetings of the International Skip Federation (FIS), which was held in the city of Villaamura, Portugal, with the aim of enhancing the development of winter sports in the region.
The initiative received a wide welcome from the members of the International Federation, who expressed their support for the founding of the union, because of its promising prospects to develop the Gulf skiing sport.
The UAE is participating in the meetings, which opened on May 5 and concludes tomorrow with a delegation from the Emirates Winter Sports Federation, as a full member of the International Federation since 2021, which is the membership that contributed to the country’s hosting of the International Skip Championship 3 consecutive years in “Ski Dubai”, with the participation of more than 48 countries.
The meetings of the International Federation also witnessed the organization of the second edition of the “Gaps Dam: Building a comprehensive sports leadership”, which focused on protecting biological diversity as one of the sustainability axes in sport, with the participation of representatives of 35 national unions, which is consistent with the UAE’s tendencies in supporting ski sports in the Gulf and internationally.
