Milan on May 16 / WAM / The Italian city of Milan in Arabic and the history of its cognitive and creative product celebrates the patronage of the Sharjah Book Authority over the past four days, the activities of the eighth session of the International Festival of Arabic Language and Culture, hosting 30 researchers, academics and elite Arab writers in the Diaspora from 18 countries under the slogan “The Migrant Tang: Arabic without Borders”.
The festival is organized by the Institute of Arab Culture at the Catholic University of the Bible in Milan in cooperation with the Arabic Language Research Center in the presence and participation of His Excellency Ahmed bin Rakad Al -Amiri, CEO of the Sharjah Book Authority, Dr. Giovanni Goubur, Dean of the College of Linguistic Sciences and Foreign Literature at the Catholic University and Dr. Wael Farouk, Director of the Arab Culture Institute and the Scientific Coordinator of the event.
The festival will host an elite of Arabic literature and culture in the Diaspora, linguists and Arabic education from various Arab countries.
His Excellency Ahmed bin Rakad Al -Amiri stressed that the slogan of this festival, “The Migrant Language: The Arabic Language Without Borders” summarizes a journey of centuries -old and a language that was a generous and loyal giving to those who were taken from them and a contribution to building human civilization when it carried knowledge and science from east to west and from the outskirts of the Arabian Peninsula to the heart of Europe.
He said, “We are meeting today, we recall that trip, which started more than a thousand years ago when Dr. Constantine, African, intended with it, carrying medical books with him in the Arabic language, to start a new stage in which Arabic opened the doors of science that was not yet known and from that trip to our moment, this interaction continued embodied in the visions and efforts of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the owner of the vision and the leadership that has always confirmed that the language It is not only a communication tool, but it is a civilized container and a bridge that expresses us from divergence to understanding, and from isolation to dialogue.
He added that the Arabic language support in its highly emergency project was not an emergency, but rather a relaxed faith. From this faith, continuous cultural initiatives were born in support of Arabic and openness to the world, and the sponsorship of the Sharjah Book Authority for this festival is only one of the fruits of that vision. Its vitality is renewed with its minds.
For his part, Dr. Wael Farouk, director of the festival, said that we are in front of a new “exit” of the Arabic language from its geographical and cultural borders that deserves to be studied and contemplated and looks at its future, so the Institute of Arab Culture opened this year the space of its conference for an excellent elite of Arab and Western intellectuals and academics to study this new phenomenon.
The festival is looking at its eighth session to explore the presence of Arabic language and culture in Western contexts and enhance its understanding and interaction in new environments through two main axes: the first deals with issues of teaching Arabic for speakers of others, while the second axis focuses on contemporary Arabic literature in the countries of the Diaspora.
The festival includes dialogue sessions in which guests discussed writers and researchers topics related to the axes of the eighth session, reflecting the wealth of cultural interaction between East and West.
