المملكة: King Abdullah Medical is taking place the first robotic operation in chest surgery

King Abdullah Medical City, a member of the Makkah Al -Mukarramah Health Gathering, inaugurated the advanced robotic surgery service using the Da Vinci XI device, in a medical achievement that represents a qualitative shift in the level of surgical services provided, and enhances the city’s position as a pioneering reference center in providing specialized care based on innovation and modern technologies.
The Makkah Al -Mukarramah Health Gathering indicated that the service was launched by conducting a robotic operation in the specialty of chest surgery, as part of a strategic plan to expand the scope of technology to include various surgeries of medical excellence centers inside the city, such as oncology surgeries of all kinds, urinary tract, gynecological tumors, cardiac surgery, organ transplantation and others.

High accuracy

The assembly added, robotic surgery is characterized by the high accuracy provided by the 3D camera (3D), the ability to accurately access the complex places in the body with the lowest possible intervention, which is reflected in reducing the percentage of pain after surgery, speeding up the recovery, and leaving the patient from the hospital at a less time compared to traditional operations.
The new technology also represents a major transformation in terms of the size of surgical intervention, as traditional operations required surgical conquest and may reach more than 10 centimeters, while one opening in robotic surgery does not exceed 1 centimeter, which reduces the side effects and improves the results of surgeries in general.

Airbags

The health assembly indicated that the first cases conducted using modern technology were a thirty patient who suffers from frequent air pools in the left chest cavity, caused by continuous respiratory difficulties, as the tests showed the presence of cysts in the upper and lower lobes of the left lung. With the removal of these cysts, the lung sticks to the chest wall using a surgical robot, during a minute that lasted an hour and a half.
The operation was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Miteb Al -Zaidi, a consultant of chest, esophagus surgery and stomach using robots and endoscopy, with the assistance of Dr. Ayman Jaafar, a consultant chest surgery assistant, in cooperation with a specialized team from the Department of Anesthesia and Nursing, in an achievement that is the first of its kind at the city level and embodies the high level of readiness for medical and technical competencies.
