The United Nations: Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals is an urgent collective responsibility

The UN official’s talk came at the opening of the sixteenth plenary session of the United Nations Economic and Social Council – the part related to the executive activities for development for the year 2025. The meeting discussed the activities carried out by the United Nations in the field of international development cooperation.
The Deputy Secretary -General stressed that the council plays a vital control role in reviewing how the United Nations Development System fulfills its promise to support countries to achieve Sustainable development goals.
6 transformational tracks
Amina Mohamed drew attention to six basic transformational tracks that need motivational investments as a way to enable an effective and strategic response in any country.
These tracks are: food systems, energy, digital communication, education and jobs, social protection, and the ability to adapt to the climate.
The United Nations Secretary -General confirmed that good financing remains the cornerstone of enabling the United Nations division to achieve the desired results.
Opportunity to come and shared responsibility
The Deputy Secretary -General highlighted the importance of a number of upcoming conferences, among them the thirtieth climate summit in BrazilSecond World Summit on Social DevelopmentWhich will be held in the Qatari capital, Doha, in November 2025 and the Fourth International Conference on Development, describing these conferences as “opportunities to reshape multilateral support and achieve large -scale sustainable development goals.”
Mrs. Amina Mohamed concluded her speech by expressing her confidence that the United Nations Development System can fulfill her promise and ensure that no one is left behind by the date set for these goals in 2030, provided that there is political will, strong frameworks, and joint ambition.
She said: “Together, we have the opportunity and responsibility to ensure that the United Nations Development System meets its entire promise – for people, and for the sake of the planet – while we are working towards a safer, sustainable and prosperous world.”
