United Nations Secretary -General announces the selection of the Minister of Environment as CEO of the United Nations Convention against Desertification

Antonio Guterres, the Secretary -General of the United Nations, announced today, the choice of Dr. Yasmine Fouad, the Egyptian Minister of Environment, to take over the position of Undersecretary of the Secretary -General, the new executive secretary of the United Nations Convention against Desertification (UNCCD), after consulting the office of the Conference Conference of the Convention, where her sovereignty is scheduled Mauritania, the Secretary -General of the United Nations expressed his great gratitude for his sincere service and his great commitment to the organization. Excavating environmental sustainability in national investment plans, as it possesses many experiences in environmental diplomacy and has more than 27 years of experience in the areas of environmental governance, global environmental issues, and international climate diplomacy. It enjoys a busy record in designing and implementing institutional and methodological reforms of sustainable development programs, and linking them to environmental challenges at the national and international levels, such as climate change, biological diversity, land deterioration and international waters ’governance. Where her Excellency headed the Fourteenth Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD-COP 14) during the period from 2018 to 2021, and also held the position of ministerial coordinator and UNFCC COP27 between 2021 and 2022. She participated in the leadership of consensus on formulating the global framework of biological diversity until 2030, and has contributed prominently to pushing the work of global initiatives for adaptation, food security, agriculture, and ground -based solutions during the COP27 conference, and led the global presidential initiative that links the three Rio agreements, which was launched during the CBD COP14 conference, and completed the call to achieve integration between Biological diversity and sustainable land management during COP27 and COP28 & nbsp conferences; . She also led and participated in facilitating climate financing negotiations in five climate conferences, representing the interests of developing countries in cooperation with development partners from developed countries. African Africans (AMCEN) during the period 2015 to 2017, as Assistant Minister of Environment for Sustainable and Regional and International Cooperation. She played a pivotal role in the technical preparation and coordination of the African adaptation and renewable energy initiatives. She also participated in the chairmanship of the Pioneering Regional Programs Committee affiliated with the new partnership of Africa Development (Nepad), which includes the sustainable management of lands, combating desertification, biological diversity, and adaptation to changing climate -based climate. Colombia, at the Earth Institute, where it participated in the design of the Excellence Center for Climate Change in Egypt, and contributed to preparing political papers on climate change in the Middle East and North Africa. The Egyptian Minister of Environment holds a PhD in Political Science- Mediterranean Studies, and a master’s degree in environmental sciences. She mastered both Arabic and English.
