“Culture” documents 13 historical sites in Medina

Insert The Ministry of Culture included 13 historical sites in the Medina region within its official records, in a strategic step that reflects the growing interest in National identity and enhancing the path of cultural tourism according to the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

The official report explained that this precise documentation goes beyond the usual concept of field inventory, to establish a new phase of institutional protection, and opens broad investment horizons that place the cultural and religious heritage on the global map.

The approved list revealed that the sites associated with the Prophet’s biography topped the scene, as it included the “Battle of the Trench” area and the “Seven Mosques,” in addition to the “Battle of Uhud” site with its immortal components, and the “Qiblatain Mosque,” which embodies a pivotal Islamic transformation.

Landmarks associated with the Prophet’s influence

Cultural records showed the documentation of landmarks linked to the direct prophetic influence, at the forefront of which are the “Fakir’s Well” and “Ghars Well” in the Al-Awali neighborhood, in addition to the stone “Bani Anif Mosque,” which represents a living example of the simplicity of early Islamic architecture.

The supervisory and regulatory umbrella has expanded to include sites of ancient human settlement, represented by the “Historic Oasis of Khaybar,” the internationally registered “Mada’in Saleh” archaeological stone site, as well as the “Al-Ula Heritage Town” with its unique urban network dating back to the seventh century AH.

The cultural authority pointed out the inclusion of very important economic, military and societal evidence, most notably the heritage “Souk Al-Layl” in Yanbu Governorate, the “Urwa bin Al-Zubair Palaces” in Wadi Al-Aqiq, and the “Quba Castle” with a cubic defensive design.

The report concluded by emphasizing that the diversity of these gains between the religious, urban, and historical dimensions consolidates Medina’s position as an exceptional incubator for a multidimensional human heritage, and ensures its use to build a sustainable cultural future.
