Dutchman Jerry is the first European to win the “Sharjah International Chess Professors”

Yesterday evening, the Minister of Sports, Dr. Ahmed Baloul Al -Falasi, witnessed the conclusion of the Sharjah Chess Professors Championship in its eighth edition, which was organized by the Sharjah Chess Club under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and with the participation of 350 players from 60 countries.

Al -Falasi stressed that the tournament reflects the advanced position that the UAE has achieved on the global sports map, especially in chess, which combines thought, planning and talent.

He said, “This tournament succeeded in consolidating its position as a global platform that attracts a group of world champions, and opens the way for emerging talents to gain experience and get to know different playing methods to develop their own methods at the highest levels.”

He added that “the great demand and the distinguished organization of the tournament reflects the commitment of the Sharjah Chess Club and the Sharjah Sports Council to support the game development process, and to enhance the role of the emirate as an international center for chess sport, and that fruitful cooperation between the various governmental and private agencies contributed to providing a distinguished copy by all standards.”

Al -Falasi praised all the efforts that stood behind this success, stressing that the Ministry of Sports puts among its priorities to support qualitative initiatives that contribute to consolidating the UAE’s position in hosting world championships, and preparing a generation of local heroes who are able to distinguish internationally.

The conclusion of the championship and the distribution of prizes was attended by Sheikh Dr. Khaled bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sharjah Chess Club, President of the Arab Federation for the game, President of the Emirates Chess Federation, Tarim Matar Tarim, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council Issa Hilal Al -Hazami, and a large number of sports personalities.

The ceremony witnessed the announcement of the winners of the Arab Union for Translation and Authorship, and the honoring of the award committee, where the Dutchman Anish Jerry won the title of professors after he was alone at the summit after the ninth round and scored 7 points, which is the first time that a European player won the title of the championship, and came in the Serbian Wasfa Alexander Indigic, recording 6.5 points equal to Uzbek Abdul Sattarouf, the first seed in the championship, who came in the third place and the bronze medal, and the first positions were honored in the second and third championships.
