Dubai World Ports contribute to linking societies to the Rwanda countryside

Until recently, she was (Aklisa), a 10 -year -old student, from Kabiza, the remote Rwandan village near the capital Kigali, is forced to cross the Gawy River Valley dangerous daily to reach its school.
During the rainy season, the river often overflows, which makes the crossing fraught with risks and isolates entire societies from schools, markets and health care services.
In the past three years alone, more than eight people have been injured while trying to cross the river.
But all of this changed when volunteers from the DP World group cooperated with members of the local community and government agencies and the “Bridge of prosperity” (B2P) initiative, a non -profit organization, to build a new bridge with a length of 50 meters.
The bridge extends over unstable land and waterways that separated four rural societies, and currently provides safe up throughout the year to more than 4,600 people, including 1721 children, in different weather conditions.
Local residents emphasized that the bridge has already improved school enrollment rates and the possibility of obtaining health services.
“We were worried about our children when they were sent to school, and now with the creation of this bridge, we feel safe, it is a great source of relief and real blessing for our society,” said Mugishha, 34 years old, a resident of the area. We are very gratitude to everyone who contributed to converting this initiative into a reality. ”
For his part, the Chairman and CEO of the Dubai Ports Group «DP and Reeld), Sultan Ahmed bin Sili, said:“ This bridge is not just a structure, but rather a lifeline, which really reminds us of the true human impact that our work can make, I am very proud of our team’s efforts and embodiment of the values and principles of the Dubai World Ports Group and to create a sustainable impact that benefits this region. ”
DBDDDDD is known for the huge infrastructure projects, such as the huge ports equipped with giant cranes, capable of handling containers from the largest ships in the world, road networks and railways that transport goods quickly and long distances.
But this infrastructure is of a different kind, it is designed to transport people from one point to another, not the goods, and this infrastructure is designed to facilitate Akalisa’s access to its school.
While logistics experts often talk about “delivery in the last mile” or (products to transfer products from a factory or from the retail seller’s warehouse to the assembly center) as one of the most difficult challenges in supply chains, this bridge deals with no less important: “arrival in the first tunnel”, i.e. the logistical term: (transportation activities to customer warehouses or shipping to neighboring markets), but here is not measured here Its impact on tons or containers, but rather positive changes in people’s lives.
The Dubai Ports Group has supported the “Bridges Towards Touring” initiative since 2022 as a cable provider, where it donated the basic cables of the bridge from its main port in Jebel Ali.
And now the DPDDRDI is adopting a more practical approach, as its employees contributed to the work of the site to complete the construction process.
Nine volunteers from engineers to logistical services with the local population for two weeks worked as part of a commitment to build bridges to improve life in the region.
“Watching children was safely crossing the day of the bridge’s inauguration of an unforgettable experience,” said Juan Carlos, CEO of Planning and Projects. We often talk about sustainability, but here we built it with our hands .. This is how the infrastructure appears when we offer it to serve people. ”
Sustainable development
The “Bridges Towards Touring” initiative is part of the DP World Dubai’s bachelors’ commitment to sustainable development, where the Global Logistical Services Group operates the logistical platform in Massaka, and it is a vital commercial center linking Rwanda Non -coastal to the head of East Africa. The platform deals with up to 50 thousand stereotypes measuring 20 feet and 640 thousand tons of goods annually, and it has provided more than 700 job opportunities for the local population, and this bridge is part of a national program launched by the “bridges of prosperity” initiative in 2019 in cooperation with the government, with a common goal of linking societies in which more than a million Rwandi lives through more than 300 bridges by 2027.
