The Supreme Committee for Consumer Protection held a meeting chaired by the Minister of Economy and Tourism, Abdullah bin Touq Al -Marri, during which the most prominent efforts and achievements achieved in 2024 were reviewed to enhance the protection of consumer rights and control of goods and products in the various emirates of the state, and to provide a safe and stable consumer environment that corresponds to the best practices followed globally.
A statement, issued yesterday, stated that the committee was briefed on the efforts of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism and its partners in controlling the markets and controlling the prices of goods and products during the past year, where 34 thousand and 499 inspection rounds were implemented, which resulted in 3561 violations, and the Ministry also received through electronic services to solve complaints about 2000 complaints, and 115 calls for goods that do not conform to the specifications through the summons service that allows to follow up with withdrawals The defective goods through the provider, the concerned authority, or the relevant authority in the country, or in the country of origin, or any other country, work to carry out registration operations within the state, protect the health and safety of consumers and their rights and ensure the rights of retailers and manufacturers, and maintain the stability of the market in the state.
The committee meeting witnessed a review of the committee’s efforts to enhance control of the e -commerce sector, including digital trade platforms, by supporting the issuance and modernization of a set of legislation and economic policies for this vital sector.
The committee reviewed the developments of the implementation of the policy of pricing basic consumer goods in the country, including the three ministerial decisions related to the policy, which include monitoring the prices of basic consumer goods, activating the unit price offer for some consumer goods, and returning to the guiding code Consumer interests and commodity suppliers.
In the same context, the Supreme Committee for Consumer Protection followed the latest developments in developing a new digital project aimed at tightening control of products and commodities in an electronic manner, and the speed of taking the necessary measures if it was discovered by any violations, and receiving complaints more flexible and easily, by providing a “integrated system for market analysis and remote monitoring of consumer goods”, in a way that ensures the advancement of the market control system in the country depending on depending on The latest technological and innovative solutions.
Bin Touq said: “The UAE, thanks to its rational leadership’s directives, cut wide strides in developing legislative and regulatory frameworks to create a pioneering and integrated system to protect consumers, ensure their rights, enable sound and fair commercial practices.” He pointed to the vital role played by the committee in raising the levels of compliance with legislation and policies related to consumer rights and tightening control over markets, along with promoting Coordination and integration with the federal and local bodies concerned to implement the targets of national projects and strategies in this regard, which contributes to achieving the state’s vision to become the most prosperous society in the coming decade in light of the targets of the “UAE 2031” vision.
