The National Center for the Development of Vegetable Cover and Control of Desertification announced the completion of the work of three major projects to cultivate the mangroves in the Tabuk region, the eastern region and the Jazan region, with a success rate of more than 90%.
This is part of his efforts to protect coastal ecosystems and enhance environmental and economic sustainability, coinciding with the International Day of the Macroff Forests.
The Director General of the General Administration of Forests at the Center, Engineer, Samir bin Ali Malaika, explained that these projects contributed to the rehabilitation of more than (170) hectares of deteriorating coastal forests.

Increase biological diversity

In the Umluj governorate in Tabuk, the center rehabilitated approximately (50) hectares of mangrove forests; This reflected positively on biological diversity, improving the quality of soil and water, and protecting the beaches from corrosion.
The project contributed to increasing biological diversity, and the return of multiple types of birds and fish, in addition to enhancing the natural carbon stock, and supporting the Kingdom’s efforts in facing the effects of climate change.

Project sites were chosen based on environmental priorities that include their natural sensitivity, their need for development, and their technical capabilities for agriculture, and technical work teams from the center began implementing accurate field surveys that included evaluating soil properties, salinity levels, and the extent of the sites of the mangrove cultivation, and conducting experiments in them.
In the context of interacting with the International Day of the Conservation of the Mankroff forests, the center launched the special visual identity for this occasion, which carries a slogan that embodies the economic and environmental dimensions of the importance of these forests, and is consistent with the targets of the Kingdom’s 2030 vision in preserving natural resources and enhancing environmental sustainability.
