With customs duties .. Trump is fined India because of its dealings with Russia
US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday the imposition of 25% customs duties on India, as well as a “fine” whose value has not been determined due to the purchase of New Delhi weapons and oil from Russia.
This measure is scheduled to enter into force on Friday, according to what Trump revealed on his social networking network, “Truth Susal”, in addition to other customs increases, some of which may reach 50%, to start working on the same day.
In a separate publication, Trump said that the maximum deadline specified on the first of August “remains fixed and will not extend.”
He previously extended this date several times since the announcement of what he calls mutual customs duties to the beginning of April, with the imposition of basic acquaintances of 10%.
Trump is severe and India reservations
The new customs tariffs imposed on India are 25% lower, with a little lower than the one announced in April, but it is higher than the specified fees for other Asian countries that have previously concluded commercial deals with Washington.
India, the world’s most populated population, was one of the first major economies to have fought trade negotiations with the Trump administration.
But after 6 months, Trump’s severe requests and India reservations about the opening of the field of agriculture and other squares prevented an agreement without reaching an agreement with New Delhi.
Trump said on Wednesday: “It is true that India is our friend, but we have conducted relatively few commercial exchanges with them because their knowledge is very high, and it is from the top in the world and they have non -critical barriers that are more severe and hatred than any other country.”
He pointed out that India “has long bought the vast majority of its military equipment from Russia, which is the largest energy customer from Russia, along with China, at a time when everyone wants Russia to stop the murder in Ukraine.”
In addition to 25%customs duties, India will face a “fine for what was previously reported,” according to Trump without any clarifications.
American pressure on Moscow
These measures come as Trump announced his intention to tighten the American pressure on Moscow to stop the battles in Ukraine and negotiate a peace agreement.
On Tuesday, the US President said that he would give his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, 10 days, which may mean by the end of next week, to change the path in Ukraine or face new identities.
He previously threatened to impose “secondary identities” targeting Russia’s commercial partners, such as China and India, in an effort to undermine Moscow’s ability to withstand severe European sanctions.
Despite the imminent customs increases on Indian products, New Delhi confirmed its intention to continue negotiating a “fair and balanced trade agreement that benefits both parties.”
