Abu Dhabi has established its medical leadership with the completion of 1,090 organ transplants since the launch of the program "life"

Abu Dhabi, August 13/ WAM/ Abu Dhabi city has established its position as a regional and global center for medical excellence, declaring, coinciding with the International Organ Donation Day, for achieving great progress in its career towards leadership in the field of organ transplantation, and making a qualitative shift in improving the quality of patients ’life.

Abu Dhabi, since the start of the National Program for donation and the cultivation of organs and human tissues “Hayat” in 2017, achieved a record number 1,090 successful cultivation operations, including 290 operations during the year 2024, which included the implementation of 7 heart cultivation, 142 total cultivates, 117 liver transplants, 22 lung transplants, and two pancreas cultivation.

The Emirate of Abu Dhabi was able to complete many complex operations in organ transplantation, most notably the transplantation of multiple organs, in addition to adopting the techniques of robotic surgery that contributed greatly to raising the accuracy of procedures, improving therapeutic results and accelerating the pace of recovery, and these achievements come as a result of the efforts of four leading centers within four main health facilities in the emirate.

The Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi Hospital highlights its pivotal role in promoting the progress of organ transplantation in the country, as it was the first center for multiple organ transplants since its foundation, and in 2024, the hospital carried out 241 multiple transplants, included the first double heart and lung transplantation at the Emirates level, in addition to an unprecedented achievement in 2023 by performing the first double dual lung and liver transplant at the region level, and carrying out the first triple kidney exchange process in The state.

In turn, the “Sheikh Khalifa Medical City” of the “Burelth” group, the largest health care group in the Middle East, succeeded in conducting more than 114 kidney transplants during 2024, and continues to expand the liver transplant program to include adults and children, which reflects its commitment to providing global health care and achieving the best results.

The “Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City”, which is affiliated with the “Burelith Group”, was distinguished in the fields of scientific research and medical education, where it made 10 research presentations in international conferences, and won the “Best Research Summary” award during the International Organ Donation Association for 2023 in Las Vegas, United States.

It also recorded a leading medical achievement by conducting the first donation operation with members of a donor with a coffee-19 in the country, and in 2022, it ranked second at the state level in the number of donors to the members.

The “Burjeel Medical City” reached a leading place in the field of multiple organ transplantation, achieving several qualitative achievements, including the first liver transplant from a living donor for a child in the Emirates, and the first total transplant between non -identical blood vessels, along with the smallest condition of cultivation of liver for a child of only five months.

His Excellency Dr. Noura Al -Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Health Department – Abu Dhabi, stressed that this achievement reflects the firm commitment of the emirate to provide global health care, noting that the advanced infrastructure, distinguished medical competencies, and the adoption of innovation made Abu Dhabi a leading regional center in the field of organ transplantation, extends its impact to be further than the borders of the region.

Her Excellency called on all members of society to register to donate members within the “Hayat” program, stressing that the initiative of one person is able to save several lives, spread hope in the hearts of patients, and contribute to making a healthier future for all.
