المملكة: Umm Al-Qura University enhances services for the guests of God through research and volunteer efforts


Contributed Umm Al-Qura University in providing an integrated system of research, volunteer and training efforts during The blessed month of Ramadan 1447 AH; In support of the Visitors of the Two Holy Mosques of visitors and pilgrims, and to improve the quality of services provided to them; In line with the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

In the research aspect; The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Institute for Hajj and Umrah Research at the university conducted six specialized field studies during the Ramadan season. Topics covered: transportation, crowd management, built environment, and visitor experience; With the aim of supporting the development of services and enhancing the efficiency of movement management in high-density areas.

These studies include: monitoring environmental risks in the Holy Mosque area, measuring the extent of residences and hotels’ compliance with the requirements and standards approved in the central region, in addition to evaluating the operational efficiency of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, and improving vehicle movement management through modeling and simulation techniques, in addition to measuring the quality of the experience of visitors to the Grand Mosque who benefit from the vehicle service.

Volunteer Hours

And in terms of volunteer work; (2,591) volunteers from the university, male and female, including students, employees, and faculty members, participated to serve the guests of God. They provided (54,850) volunteer hours; The fields included: health, security, guidance, and awareness, in a number of locations inside and outside Mecca, in cooperation with multiple parties.

The College of Medicine also presented the program: “Systematic Umrah.” In cooperation with the Department of Voluntary Work and Social Responsibility; Which aims to invest the energies of health college students in serving Umrah pilgrims and visitors. The program included three main tracks: They are: foot teams inside the Grand Mosque and its courtyards with the participation of (605) students to provide first aid, the hospitals and health centers track with the participation of (433) students for clinical training and health care provision, in addition to the health awareness track with the participation of (63) students to implement awareness campaigns.

Historic Sites Hackathon

And on the level of innovation; Umm Al-Qura University, in partnership with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, launched the Historical and Enrichment Sites Hackathon in its third edition. With broad participation from: students, innovators, entrepreneurs, and those interested in developing the Hajj, Umrah, and visiting sector; This is part of efforts to enhance innovation and employ modern technologies to serve the guests of God and enrich their experience. In this context, the King Salman Chair for Studies on the History of Mecca presented many specialized workshops, and the university also organized many training workshops and field enrichment visits.

As for qualification and training; The university, represented by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Institute for Hajj and Umrah Research (23), launched a specialized training program for workers on the front lines of the Hajj season 1447 AH. With the aim of raising their readiness and enhancing their efficiency; In a way that contributes to developing the institutional work system and improving the quality of services provided.

Cultural Interface

The cultural interface of Umm Al-Qura University received more than (4000) visitors during the holy month of Ramadan. They viewed its cultural and museum collections and heritage collectibles. It reflects the depth of the cultural and historical heritage of the Holy City of Makkah.

Umm Al-Qura University also launched its communication campaign to support the university’s endowments promoting education, research and innovation in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, and implemented, through the Institute of Research, Studies and Consulting Services, a set of consulting studies that serve the Hajj and Umrah system.

Integrated Efforts

The President of Umm Al-Qura University, A., stressed. Dr. Maadi bin Muhammad Al Madhab stressed that these integrated efforts enhance the pioneering role of Umm Al-Qura University in serving the guests of God. Through a work system that combines: scientific research, volunteering, qualification, and training for workers; In a way that contributes to developing the experience of visitors and pilgrims, and improving the level of services provided in the Two Holy Mosques.
