Trump pointed out that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was “very useful” in pressuring Hamas to move forward with the release of the hostages, adding: “Erdogan helped a lot. He is a strong man, but he is my friend and was great.”
A US official told the site that Trump spoke to Erdogan on Friday before the release of Hamas and asked him to ensure that the movement would not reject the deal.
The official added: “Trump told Erdogan: I have done a lot for you, and now I need to do this for me.”
