Thorup…the first Danish coach to lead Al-Ahly of Egypt

Yesterday, the Egyptian Al-Ahly club appointed Danish Yes Thorup as technical director of the first football team for two and a half seasons, succeeding Imad El-Nahhas, who took over the job temporarily following the dismissal of the Spaniard, Jose Ribeiro, last month. An official statement issued by Al-Ahly Club stated that the club’s management completed the procedures for contracting with Thorup, after meetings led by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mahmoud Al-Khatib, with the Planning Committee, the Sports Director, the Director of Football, the Contracting Department and the Scouts. Thorup (55 years old) became the first Danish coach to coach Al-Ahly in its history. The club did not reveal the value of its contract with the coach or the assistant staff at the present time. Al-Ahly currently ranks third in the Egyptian League with 18 points, on goal difference from Al-Masry and Zamalek.
