"Shaheen" Wins the Ghanada sailing race, 60 feet category

ABU DHABI, 10th October, 2018 (WAM) – Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club organized today a race for 60-foot sailboats, as part of the heritage and traditional races program. The ship, “Shaheen 57,” owned by Hamdan Saeed Jaber Al Harbi, led by Nokhatha Khalifa Abed Thani Saif Al Marri, won first place, after strong competition. It was decided in the final stage of the race.
“Nimran 211” came in second place, owned by Nokhatha Abdullah Mohammed Juma Al Marzouqi, and “Ghazi 103” came in third place, owned by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, led by Nokhatha Ahmed Saeed Salem Al Rumaithi.
The race witnessed the participation of more than 90 loaders, sailing from the starting point for a distance of 30 nautical miles, towards the finish line in front of the headquarters of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club on the Capital Corniche, while large crowds watched from the beach.
The start came quickly in the first stage, and the force of the wind helped the bearings to rush and spread over the water smoothly after each Nokhadha chose the appropriate path for the tactic and plan that each Nokhadha developed for the bearing he was driving between high, middle and low, as the leading bearings reached the finish line in one hour and 35 minutes.
The organizing committee for the race allocated valuable financial prizes totaling 4,238,000 dirhams, distributed up to 90th place, along with 3 cars for the first three place holders, to encourage owners, captains and sailors to continue participating, and to contribute to transmitting the heritage of grandfathers and fathers to generations of courage in going to sea, and to support efforts to preserve the authentic Emirati maritime heritage, which forms a part. Important from the history of the Emirates and national identity.
The top three finishers expressed their happiness with the achievement they achieved in climbing to the podium, pointing out the strength of the race, and praising the distinguished organization of the event.
The winners of the first three places were honored by Mubarak Al Muhairbi, Deputy Director General for Administrative Affairs and Community Management – Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), Ali Salmeen Al Dhaheri, representative of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Khalifa Al Rumaithi, Director of the Heritage Races Department at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, and Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Director of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Academy.
Khalifa Al Rumaithi praised the wise leadership’s support for heritage activities, the sponsorship of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, for the race, and His Highness’s great support for heritage activities.
He said: “The race was a remarkable success with the great participation of the bearings and the strong competition it witnessed from the starting point to the finish line, in addition to the organizational arrangements that contributed to highlighting the event in its best light with the cooperation of the participants.”
