Details of the weekly supervisory report for "Food safety" Within a week

The media center of the National Food Safety Authority issued Weekly Report No. (37) for the year 2025, for the period from October 4 to 10, including the authority’s most prominent activities in monitoring and inspecting food locally and internationally to ensure the arrival of safe food from the port to the consumer.

Intensive control and active export

The authority carried out 90 inspection missions on Food factories, in cooperation with the Industrial Control Authority, conducted 38 visits to packing stations, and issued 515 export permits to 427 companies. Food exports amounted to 3,050 consignments with a quantity of 130,000 tons to 1,230 companies, including about 700 types of food products.

Sweet potatoes topped the list of exported vegetables with 12,000 tons, followed by frozen vegetables and onions, while pomegranates came in the list. Fruits led the way with 8,000 tons, followed by mango and strawberries with 5,000 tons each. Exports were distributed to 170 countries, most notably Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Morocco, and India.

Imports and Port Control

Egypt received 1,655 food consignments amounting to 313,000 tons from 77 countries, led by Ukraine, Brazil, and Russia. Alexandria Port ranked first in the volume of imports and exports. The Authority also issued 925 health certificates for export, and 64 new import licenses, with the release of 996 food consignments under reservation and 339 consignments through the rapid release system.

Internal oversight and inspection activities

The Authority implemented 51 oversight campaigns on branches of commercial chains to verify compliance with safety requirements, bringing the total number of registered branches to 2181 branches belonging to 57 chains. In addition, 392 new food facilities were inspected, 851 facilities were registered, and 261 facilities met registration requirements.

On the other hand, the administration carried out 23 warehouse missions and inspected 4 school feeding warehouses, while issuing 1,212 permits for transporting and storing incoming food consignments, while seizing 439 consignments that did not comply with the requirements.

Monitoring Vital Sectors

The Authority continued to monitor wheat and rice through 30 inspection visits, and carried out 14 campaigns on milk shops and dairy collection centers, 16 campaigns on fish and seafood facilities, and 63 visits to tourist and hotel facilities in preparation for the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum. The inspection work also included 71 visits to slaughterhouses and intestinal factories, and 18 tours of food contact materials factories, and the efforts resulted in the registration of 4 new facilities and the addition of two production lines for a recycling plant within the sustainable development plan and Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Reports and Complaints

The Authority received 54 complaints during the week, of which 13 complaints were dealt with and the rest are being examined, with implementation 306 field campaigns targeted establishments in several governorates, during which violations were detected and legal measures were taken.

The Authority called on citizens to report any violations related to food safety through the unified portal for government complaints (16528) or the Authority’s WhatsApp number (01555771100).

Campaigns Governorates

The branches of the authority in the governorates intensified their monitoring campaigns, as the Gharbia branch carried out 39 campaigns during which they seized tons of spoiled food, while Dakahlia, Beheira, Menoufia, Fayoum, Port Said, Sharqia, Matrouh, the Red Sea, Ismailia, Luxor and New Valley witnessed similar campaigns that resulted in the seizure and destruction of quantities of expired food of unknown origin, with directives Warnings and educating facility owners about the necessity of registering and adhering to the Authority’s requirements.

Dr. Tarek Al-Houbi, Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority, confirmed the continuation of intensive inspection campaigns to ensure the circulation of safe and sound food, noting that the Authority seeks to achieve the highest standards of control in a way that supports Egyptian exports and protects the health of citizens.
