Jeger, who previously served as the German ambassador to Kiev, confirmed what other intelligence service chiefs said who spoke on Monday, stressing that Russia’s ambitions and aggression are not limited to the war in Ukraine.

Undermining NATO

He said Yeager: "We should not sit back and assume that a possible Russian attack will occur in 2029 at the earliest" Referring to a previous intelligence assessment, he stressed: "We are already under attack"

He added that Moscow seems determined to undermine NATO and destabilize European democracies.

Yeger said that "The means used by Moscow are well known: attempts to manipulate elections and public opinion, propaganda, provocations, disinformation, espionage, sabotage, violation of airspace with drones and fighter planes, contract killings, and persecution of opposition figures residing abroad."

Airspace Violation

The new head of the German domestic intelligence agency (BfV), Sinan Selin, referred to several events that were monitored in September, such as the incursion of the drones, the jamming of the Global Positioning System (GPS) and the violation of NATO airspace by Russian fighter planes.

He said that the incidents of the drone incursion underscore the potential hybrid threat to Germany. and its European allies from Russia, even as investigations continue.
