During the opening, Dr. Manal Awad confirmed that the development of the park comes within the framework of the national vision launched by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to revive the heritage and cultural identity of Cairo so that Cairo becomes an open museum of history, art, beauty and culture, noting the government’s keenness to Preserving heritage and historical parks in various governorates of the Republic, as an integral part of the Egyptian identity and an environmental and cultural outlet for citizens, pointing out that the state pays great attention to development projects that take into account environmental and archaeological standards, and restore these sites to their splendor.
The Minister of Local Development indicated that the development of the Obelisk Park reflects The state is keen to invest its heritage resources in a way that achieves cultural and tourism returns, explaining that the goal is not only to beautify the place, but rather to transform the historical gardens into vibrant attractions that encourage domestic tourism and enhance awareness of the importance of preserving the environment and authentic Egyptian heritage.
She explained that the development work witnessed the planting of more than 1,600 new trees of appropriate species. For the Egyptian environment, and coordinating the green spaces, corridors and waterways to form an integrated visual painting that combines natural beauty and high-end architectural elements, pointing out that all the rare and heritage trees and plants in the park have been preserved, and integrated services have been created for visitors with a modern architectural design that is consistent with the historical character. During the opening, a documentary film was shown about the development work that was carried out. The project also included the establishment of Recreational areas, children’s playgrounds, and pedestrian walkways, in addition to corners for reviving Egyptian handicrafts such as copper making, handmade carpets, and khayameya, in a scene that combines the authenticity of the past with the spirit of the present.
The development was not limited to the aesthetic appearance only, but extended to include a complete modernization of the infrastructure, including drainage, irrigation, and electricity networks, and alarm systems. And firefighting, to ensure the sustainability of the park and the safety of its facilities. A modern lighting system was also added, highlighting the beauty of the park and its landmarks at night, and providing a safe and attractive atmosphere for visitors.
