Referee of the UAE-Qatar match.. “lost” stoppage time
The Uzbek referee, Tanchav, angered the Emirati fans during the end of the match that brought together the national team with its Qatari counterpart today, Tuesday, at the end of the Asian play-off qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup finals, which ended with Qatar winning 2-1 and qualifying directly for the World Cup, while the UAE national team needs to continue its path of qualifying through an additional play-off.
Although the first half passed relatively calmly without significant errors, and the referee was content with a single warning at the 32nd minute to the Qatari player Mohamed Mannai after a violent intervention on Ali Saleh, the second half of the match bore signs of tension, as halts were repeated as a result of throwing water bottles from the stands and mutual protests between the players.
In the 87th minute, the arbitration controversy began after the referee showed the red card in the face of the Qatari player Tariq Salman after returning to the video technology (VAR), following a violent intervention with the Emirates player Eric, after returning to the VAR technology.
The referee also counted 15 minutes of time instead of stoppage time for the match, which included wasting time by the Qatari players without the referee counting any additional time to end the match with the last second of extra time, amidst the protest of the Emirati fans who were demanding that time be counted, especially since “Al-Abyad” could have scored the equalizing goal.
