The digital economy accounts for 15% of global output

President and CEO of the World Economic Forum, Borg Brende, confirmed that the digital economy today accounts for 15% of the global gross domestic product, or about $16 trillion.

Major transfers
Borg Brende expected this number to double by 2030, in light of the major transformations led by artificial intelligence and automation.

He said that the world is living in a phase of “extreme complexity and greater opportunities,” noting that technology is no longer just a tool, but has become the system in which we live, as it determines the way we work, communicate, and govern.

Escalating threats
In a speech he delivered during the annual meetings of the Global Future and Cybersecurity Councils, Brende warned of the escalation of electronic threats, stressing that cybercrimes have drained about trillions of dollars from the global economy during the past year alone.

Strengthening cooperation
He explained that these challenges underscore the need to enhance global cooperation and dialogue, considering that “dialogue is the first line of defense in the digital age,” noting that the next Davos meeting will be held under the slogan “Spirit of Dialogue,” emphasizing the importance of communication between countries and sectors to create a safer and more inclusive future.

praise
He concluded his speech by praising the UAE, considering that Dubai embodies what dialogue, innovation and a shared global vision can achieve, calling for the dialogues of this meeting to be a starting point for a more connected and secure digital world.
