His Excellency Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Head of the Sharjah Department of Culture, witnessed the ceremony announcing the Emirate of Sharjah’s contribution to the rehabilitation of the “Beirut Grand Theater,” which was held in the Lebanese capital recently.

It is noteworthy that the Beirut Grand Theater was designed by Youssef Aftimos and built by Jacques Tabet, a “poet and theater lover” during the 1920s. While the building was opened in 1929, it hosted international theatrical performances over the years.

The theater hall accommodates 630 seats, with an orchestra, two balconies, and machines to prepare the theater. It contains a small steel dome that operates with electricity, in addition to a domed ceiling with decorative stained glass covering the lobby. It was designed in a way that serves the performances of theater and opera groups, and the performances continued in it until the mid-1970s.
