She confirmed that this initiative embodies a partnership between manufacturers, distributors and pharmacies, under the supervision of the Egyptian Pharmaceutical Authority, and in cooperation with the Pharmacists Syndicate, the Chamber of Pharmaceutical Industry and the Chambers of Commerce, where a central committee was formed headed by it and representatives of various parties to follow up on implementation and overcome obstacles, along with subcommittees in all governorates. For her part, Dr. Amira Mahjoub, Head of the Central Administration for Inspection of Pharmaceutical Institutions, stated that during the first phase of the initiative, a comprehensive survey was carried out for all pharmaceutical institutions to monitor the presence of expired medications or not. She added that the initiative achieved remarkable progress and resulted in achieving 94% of the total pharmaceutical institutions that practice the activity and By registering on the link for the initiative.

The head of the Central Department of Inspection added that 70.5% of the pharmaceutical institutions have registered on the electronic link designated for pharmacies’ registration of expired drug packages, with a number of 56,710 pharmacies, and 20,321,303 units as the total number of units that have been registered of expired medicines, explaining that 23.5% of the institutions The pharmacy registered on the electronic link does not contain expired medications, as there are 16,701 pharmacies.

Dr. Amira Mahjoub explained that after reviewing and deleting the units not listed by the Chairman of the Authority’s Decision No. (47) of 2025, the number of expired units required to be withdrawn by the distribution companies has become 18,300,042 units.

Regarding the second phase of the initiative, Addressed to distribution companies, which lasted for three months and ended on October 30, 2025, it resulted in the successful withdrawal of expired packages from pharmacies to distributors, with a total withdrawal rate of 94.2% for a number of 17,247,051 expired units out of a total number of 18,300,042 units.
