The skies of the Kingdom and the Arab region are witnessing A distinctive astronomical phenomenon represented by the occurrence of a meteor shower "Oriones" Its peak, as it is expected to appear clearly in the pre-dawn hours when its radiant point is high in the sky towards the southeastern horizon.

An ideal opportunity for photography enthusiasts

The head of The Astronomical Society in Jeddah Engineer Majid Abu Zahra said that the conditions this year are ideal for observing, due to the moon setting before dawn; Which allows a dark sky to view the meteors that are usually active from October 2 to November 7 of each year.

Orionids shower

He explained that the Orionids shower is a moderate shower, as about 20 meteors can be seen per hour from locations far from city lights, indicating that its source is Comet"Haley" Which will approach the sun again in July 2061, and that some meteors may leave luminous tails that can be seen with the naked eye.
He added that monitoring does not require the use of telescopes or binoculars, and it is sufficient to choose a dark location and a wide horizon to follow the enjoyable celestial show, which is a suitable opportunity for astronomy enthusiasts and families to enjoy a unique scene in the Kingdom’s sky.
