The Ministry of Local Development participates in the activities of the Blue Africa Conference in Tangier, Morocco

On behalf of Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of the Environment.. Dr. Walaa Jad Al Karim, Director of the Central Unit of the Decent Life Initiative at the Ministry of Local Development, participated in the activities of the third edition of the Africa Blue Summit, which was organized by the Royal Moroccan Academy and the Blue Season Organization, in the city of Tangier, Morocco, during the month of October. 2025.
For her part, Dr. Manal Awad indicated that the Egyptian state pays great attention to the blue economy file, and there is integration between the efforts of the Egyptian ministries related to this vital file, stressing that Egypt is open to cooperation with all regional and global initiatives and efforts aimed at protecting the environment of the seas and oceans and moving towards the blue economy. And sustainable.
The Minister of Local Development stressed the importance of Egyptian participation in this conference to attend the discussions aimed at reaching the Blue Africa Charter, which is the charter that focuses on supporting regional cooperation in protecting the oceans, seas and coasts, enhancing opportunities for the growth of the blue economy, and dealing with the effects of climate change on coastal regions, communities and marine resources.
For his part, he reviewed D. Walaa Gad Al-Karim, during his participation in the conference activities, highlighted Egypt’s role in global and regional movements to protect the seas and oceans and the political leadership’s keenness to personally participate in the “One Ocean” global summit. Which was hosted by France in 2022. He also reviewed the Egyptian national efforts in implementing coastal protection projects and supporting adaptation on the northern coast of Egypt through the use of environmentally friendly technologies and integrating local communities in implementing sustainable solutions, in addition to Egypt’s efforts in developing ports and maritime logistics services in a way that serves the global trade movement in parallel with protecting the marine environment and working to prepare a comprehensive strategy for the blue economy in Egypt in cooperation with the World Bank, as well as developing… Mechanisms for periodically monitoring changes in the marine environment on the shores of the Mediterranean and Red Seas and the Gulf of Suez and Aqaba.
Dr. Walaa Gad Al Karim also stressed, during his participation, the necessity of integration between the outcomes of the Blue Africa Summit on the one hand and the agenda of the twenty-fourth meeting of the states parties to the Barcelona Convention for the Protection of the Mediterranean, which Egypt will host in December. 2025.
