Sharjah: Opening of an exhibition "Of stones: tools made in prehistoric times in Qatar"

Sharjah, October 20 / WAM / Sheikh Majid bin Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Head of the Department of Suburban Affairs in Sharjah, today opened the exhibition “From Stones: Prehistoric Tools Made in Qatar,” which is organized by the Sharjah Museums Authority at the Sharjah Archeology Museum, in cooperation with Qatar Museums.

The opening was attended by Her Excellency Aisha Rashid Dimas, Director General of the Sharjah Museums Authority, Issa Yousef, Director General of the Sharjah Archeology Authority, Maysaa Saif Al Suwaidi, Director of the Sharjah Museums Authority, and Halima Humaid Al Owais, Vice President of the Advisory Council of the Emirate of Sharjah, along with representatives of the Qatari Consulate and Qatar Museums, and a number of specialists in the fields of antiquities and culture.

The exhibition, which continues until April 30, 2026, presents a selection of stone tools that shaped the features of human life in prehistoric times in the State of Qatar, revealing their role in the development of civilization, livelihoods, and methods of adapting to the environment in those distant times.

Aisha Rashid Dimas said: “This exhibition represents a unique window overlooking the beginnings of human history in the region, and revives the stories of the first man through his stone tools, which were a witness to his development and his ability to adapt and create. Through fruitful cooperation with Qatar Museums, we seek to provide a scientific and cultural experience that shows the common cultural denominators that have linked Gulf societies for thousands of years, and at the same time reinforces the Authority’s mission to preserve heritage.” humanity and conveying it to future generations as a living memory that bears witness to the process of development and innovation throughout the ages.”

The exhibition opens its doors for visitors to discover unique archaeological treasures that transport them to prehistoric times, as the displayed pieces reveal features of the early life of man in the Arabian Gulf, from fine arrowheads and flint scrapers that were used throughout multiple stages of the Stone Age, to the remarkable discovery of a grave in which a camel was found buried next to its owner dating back to the last centuries before Islam.

The displayed collection of approximately 110 artifacts provides an exceptional experience that reveals the secrets of the past and allows diving into precise details of the lives of ancestors.

The exhibition constitutes a unique station for visitors and researchers to discover human history in the Paleolithic and Neolithic eras and the last centuries before Islam in the Arabian Gulf region, highlighting the scientific efforts of archaeologists and excavators in Qatar and the basic data that their research yielded for understanding the nature of human life in those ancient times, deepening our understanding of the path of civilizational development.

The exhibition is accompanied by a group of accompanying activities that aim to engage the public in an interesting educational and interactive experience that enhances their connection to the content of the event and opens up new horizons for them in understanding the history of ancient man.

These activities include a specialized scientific symposium that sheds light on the history of archaeological excavations in the State of Qatar with the participation of an elite group of researchers and those interested in the field of archaeology, in addition to an educational workshop on methods of manufacturing flint tools in the Stone Age, on November 16, which will provide a rich knowledge experience that deepens visitors’ understanding of the stages of human development in prehistoric times.
