The Prime Minister is following up on efforts to remove encroachments on the Nile River

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, held a meeting this evening; To follow up on efforts to remove encroachments on the course of the Nile River and the river’s drainage lands, within the framework of the "National Project to Control the Nile" Which is one of the axes of the second generation of the Egyptian irrigation system, in the presence of Dr. Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Engineer Hossam Taher, Head of the Nile River Protection and Development Sector, Dr. Ahmed Medhat, Head of the Minister’s Office Sector, and Dr. Hossam El-Sersawy, Director of the Nile Research Institute.

The Prime Minister stressed that it is within the framework of the Egyptian state’s vision to protect water resources and ensure their sustainability, and in confirmation of the importance of the Nile River in achieving security. Water resources and sustainable development, the need came to implement a project aimed at developing and improving the management of the water of the Nile River and its course, appreciating the efforts of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation to support Egypt’s water security.

Dr. Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, began his presentation by confirming that the Ministry continues to manage the water situation in a dynamic manner based on real-time monitoring of the Upper Nile, hydrological forecasts, and the use of the latest Mathematical models and analysis of satellite images, in order to determine the appropriate timing for water disposal based on the infrastructure of the water resources system, especially the High Dam, as well as monitoring the drainage capacity of the network around the clock in light of the water needs for all uses, the absorptive capacity of the network and maximizing the benefit from water resources.

The Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation indicated, during presented it, until the "Nile Control Project" This means taking all necessary measures to remove all forms of encroachments on the course of the Nile River, and using modern technology and photography to conduct a survey of the Nile River bridges in a way that enables us to accurately determine the locations of the encroachments and determine the boundaries of the prohibited and restricted areas on both sides of the river, while following up on the commitment of individuals and investors to the requirements issued by the Ministry of Irrigation regarding the works that are being carried out on both sides of the river, and the implementation of development work for any corniche. Or a walkway according to the models set by the Ministry without negatively affecting the water sector of the river.

Dr. Hani Sweilem reviewed the general objectives of the national project to control the Nile River and its two branches, which aims to restore the carrying capacity of the stream to confront water and climate changes, and enable the state to extend its control over the river’s course, and remove all encroachments on the river’s course and its branches. (filling – construction – occupancy).

 In this context, the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation explained that the axes of the national project to control the Nile River and its two branches include three axes: producing modern digital maps of the bottom and sides of the Nile River and its two branches (topographic – bathymetric), and inventorying and raising public properties related to irrigation. Drainage and river drainage lands, and removing encroachments that affect the flow of water in the Nile River.
