In the presence of Al-Husseini, Cairo hosts an important meeting of the International Arms Federation’s Referees Committee

An important meeting of the International Rifle Federation Referees Committee was held in Cairo, from 17 to 19 October 2025, in the presence of Abdel Moneim El Husseini, President of the International Rifle Federation, and Golnora Saidova, Secretary General of the International Rifle Federation. The meeting witnessed the presence of Irina Knesh, Chair of the Referees Committee, and all members of the committee: Amjad Badawy, Olga Kojokari, Saleh Ferjani, Marius Floria, Chang Geun Kim, Anna Koverlea, Vladislav Shamis, Baba Khassoum Toure, and Katalin Varga.

 

After several virtual meetings held in recent months, Al-Husseini decided to hold a meeting in Cairo to discuss the strategic direction of the committee for the next three years, in preparation for the Los Angeles Olympic Games. 2028.

The meeting began with welcoming words from Abdel Moneim Al-Husseini, Interim President of the International Fencing Federation, where he stressed the importance of the meeting, saying: “I consider this workshop very important to the International Fencing Federation. We must define our strategy for the next three years; Developing arbitration is one of the main axes of our strategic plan. Transparency and cooperation with players and committees are essential."

Gulnora Saidova, Secretary General of the International Federation, stressed the need for cooperation: "We have many important topics that must be discussed face to face, it is important that we listen to the feedback of our professionals— Especially the referees committee — On how we can continue to improve our arbitration system; As referees are among the most important elements in International Fencing Federation competitions."

Saydova explained in detail the International Fencing Federation’s strategic plan, to ensure that all members of the refereeing committee are fully informed and aware of all its aspects. She also announced that the Federation is studying new initiatives, including the introduction of video referees to assist in decisive match decisions, starting From next year. She added: “This is one of our main ideas, and we hope, with the support of the Referees’ Committee, to implement it soon.”

Irina Knesh, Chair of the Referees’ Committee, identified the main objectives of the meeting: “We organized this meeting to find solutions to develop a new generation of referees, to raise the general level of arbitration, and to discuss the use of technology.” Video."

She explained that one of the main axes will be identifying and training young refereeing talents: "This season, we are launching a new project to visit selected competitions from the Junior World Cup and invite federations to send promising young referees.

She stressed the importance of unifying arbitration concepts and continuous education: “Sometimes some arbitration cases are interpreted differently, which may be considered an error while it is a difference in understanding the priority. We aim to set clear and unified standards that will be published on the International Rifle Federation’s website.

The academy to be established in Budapest plays an important role by organizing courses and seminars, to qualify referees with talent and leadership capabilities.
