The UAE wins the first medal in the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain

Manama, October 23 / WAM / The athletics team won the first medal in the history of the UAE’s participation in the Asian Youth Games, after player Mohammed Adel Al Ali won a bronze medal in the hammer throw with a distance of 62.03 meters in today’s competitions in Bahrain at the third Asian Youth Games.

Chinese player Wang Zi won gold with a distance of 68.22 metres, and Uzbek Nosyrov won silver with a distance of 67.85 metres.

The UAE had not previously achieved any medals in the previous two participations in 2009 in the first edition in Singapore, and the second edition in China in 2013, making shooter Mohammed Adel Al Ali the first athlete to win a medal for the country in this major continental forum.

His Excellency Major General Dr. Mohammed Al Murr, President of the UAE Athletics Federation, dedicated the historic achievement to the wise leadership, which provided all means of support and care for sports and athletes in our beloved country.
He said that the victory of the player Muhammad Adel Al-Ali in the bronze medal in the hammer toss competition is a moment of great pride, and an achievement that reflects the fruits of the continuous work and efforts of the Federation in preparing a promising generation of athletics champions capable of representing the nation in the best way.

He added that the medal is a starting point towards more successes in continental and international forums, and a strong motivation to continue investing in young talents and developing training and external contact programmes, praising the efforts of the Ministry of Sports and the National Olympic Committee and their continuous support, the technical and administrative bodies and everyone who contributed to this achievement, which is recorded in the name of Emirates Sports.
