The head of the Medicines Authority discusses technical cooperation and developing expertise with the Swiss Authority

Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi, Chairman of the Egyptian Medicines Authority, held a bilateral meeting with the delegation of the Swiss Medicines Authority, headed by Dr. Philippe Girard, Deputy Executive Director of the Authority, at the headquarters of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in Amsterdam, on the sidelines of its participation in The International Alliance for Medicines Regulatory Authorities (ICMRA) summit for the year 2025, the meeting came to discuss ways of technical and regulatory cooperation between the two sides, and to exchange experiences in the field of pharmaceutical control.
During the meeting, a proposal for a comprehensive cooperation protocol between the Egyptian Medicines Authority and the Swiss Authority was reviewed, aiming to transfer technical expertise and develop human capabilities, in a way that supports the Egyptian Medicines Authority’s path towards obtaining a classification. The meeting also discussed opportunities for regional cooperation through the North African Medicines Harmonization Initiative (NAMRH), which is headed by the Egyptian Authority, through training programs and exchange of experiences to enhance the efficiency of African bodies in the areas of oversight and regulation.
Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi, Chairman of the Egyptian Medicines Authority, stressed that the meeting with the Swiss Medicines Authority represents an important step towards strengthening technical cooperation. And exchanging experiences, noting the authority’s keenness to implement the best international practices in pharmaceutical control and regulation.
