Abu Dhabi, 26 October / WAM / Brazilian Mackenzie Dern won the strawweight title, becoming the first woman to win the UFC title in Abu Dhabi and the Middle East, after defeating her compatriot Verna Jandiroba, at “UFC 321: Aspinall vs. Gunn” at the Etihad Arena, during the competitions held within Abu Dhabi Challenge Week.
As for the main event of the fights, the heavyweight title fight between champion Tom Aspinall and Cyril Jean ended in a goalless draw after an unintentional injury to the eye during the first round. The fight was stopped, as Aspinall was unable to continue playing due to an injury to his right eye, during his first defense of the title.
In the other main tournament bouts, bantamweight star Omar Nurmagomedov gave a strong performance and defeated Mario Bautista by unanimous decision, taking an additional step towards the fight for his bantamweight title.
Alexander Volkov achieved a difficult victory after three rounds over Jaylton Almeida in the heavyweight competition, and the fight was decided by a split decision.
Russian Azamat Murzakanov prevailed after knocking out his opponent, Alexander Rakic, with a right punch at minute 3:11 of the first round.
Egyptian Hamdi Abdel Wahab shone and gave a strong performance that lit up the stands and defeated Chris Barnett in the heavyweight category by unanimous vote of the judges.
Quilan Salkeld won the “Best Performance” award after a stunning header that knocked out Nosrat Haqparast.
The second prize went to Walter Walker, who made history by recording his fourth consecutive foothold submission, this time against Louie Sutherland.
As for the “Best Fight” award, it went to Ludovit Klein and Matthews Rebicki after a difficult fight that lasted three rounds that exhausted both players, as Rebicki began bleeding, while Klein was unable to stand due to an ankle injury, before Klein clinched the victory in the end.
