Emirati swimmer Hussein Shawqi wins gold in the 50-meter butterfly at the Asian Games

Hussein Shawqi, the UAE national team swimmer, won the gold medal in the 50 meter butterfly with a time of 24.73 and the best race number in the history of the Asian Youth Games, beating Lau Kin James, the Hong Kong swimmer, by 0.24 seconds, who won the silver medal with a time of 24.97 seconds, while Wu Zhao-Si, the Chinese Taipei swimmer, won the bronze medal and third place with a time of 24.97 seconds. 25.05 seconds.
In an exceptional achievement in less than 24 hours, Hussein Shawqi competed in 3 finals in the swimming races at the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, continuing his distinguished brilliance, after qualifying for the final of the 50 meter butterfly race with a time of 25.16 seconds, a difference of 0.42 part of a second from his nearest competitor, and winning the bronze medal yesterday, Monday, in the 50 meter freestyle race.
By achieving this medal, the UAE’s tally increased to 19 colored medals, with 8 gold, 6 silver, and 5 bronze medals in sixth place, confirming its Arab leadership, while China continued to lead the overall rankings with 98 medals, Uzbekistan in second place with 40 medals, and Thailand in second place with 33 medals.
Gold champion Hussein Shawqi stressed that achievements come with persistence and seriousness in training, and benefiting from every participation and gathering, which is what the technical staff of the swimming team worked to achieve under the leadership of national coach Marwan Al-Hattawi, which resulted in this great success that will not be the last in the name of the Emirates. He added, “All thanks to the Ministry of Sports, the National Olympic Committee and the Emirates Aquatic Sports Federation. The efforts culminated in this success and the best is to come in the upcoming sports forums.”
For his part, Marwan Al-Hattawi, the technical director of the Emirates Swimming Team, expressed his happiness with the achievement of the golden swimmer Hussein Shawqi and the advanced level he achieved during all the races in the tournament, indicating that preparations for participation in the Asian Youth Games were well implemented during the last stage, and since the selection of the participating swimmers on June 20 of this year from the group whose ages allow participation according to the age groups specified in the tournament.
