UEFA took advantage of its position to prevent the European Super Cup

Yesterday, a court in Madrid confirmed in an appeal decision that the European Football Association (UEFA) “exploited its dominant position” by trying to prevent the establishment of the European Super League in 2021, according to a judicial document seen by Agence France-Presse.

The text of the decision stated that “UEFA and FIFA (the International Federation of Association Football) took advantage of their dominant position, by granting themselves a discretionary power that gives them the right to prevent European clubs from participating in alternative competitions,” thus confirming the decision of the European Court of Justice issued in 2023.
