The Minister of Higher Education leaves for Samarkand to participate in the work of the UNESCO General Conference

Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Chairman of the National Commission for UNESCO, and Egypt’s representative on the organization’s Executive Council, left for the city of Samarkand in the Republic of Uzbekistan. To participate in the activities of the 43rd session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). He is accompanied by a delegation from higher education and the Egyptian National Commission for UNESCO.
This session is considered exceptional as it is being held for the first time in the city of Samarkand, and the first time that the General Conference has been held outside the organization’s headquarters in Paris in nearly forty years.
The General Conference of UNESCO is held once every two years with the participation of the 194 member states, to discuss the situation of the organization, and to review the decisions of the Executive Council that were taken during the period between the two sessions.
Dr. Ayman is scheduled to deliver a speech. Ashour, the official statement of the Arab Republic of Egypt before the General Conference, will also participate in the opening session of the Education Committee, and the ministerial dialogue session for the ministers of education.
He will also hold a number of bilateral meetings with the ministers of higher education from a number of Arab, Asian and European countries. To discuss ways to enhance joint academic and scientific cooperation.
The General Conference is also expected to witness the adoption of the election of Dr. Khaled Al-Anani as the first Egyptian and Arab Director-General of UNESCO, in addition to his official installation ceremony in this high international position.
