The sports sector in Dubai has all the ingredients for success

His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, affirmed that the sports sector in Dubai possesses all the ingredients for success, development and growth in terms of performance and results, thanks to the continuous support of the wise leadership, government legislation supporting sports, initiatives to attract and develop talented people, stimulate investors from the private sector and partnerships with international sports institutions.

This came while His Highness chaired the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Dubai Sports Council, in the presence of Khalfan Juma Belhoul, Vice Chairman of the Council, and members Ali Al-Mutawa, Ahmed Al-Khaja, Ismail Al-Hashimi, Dr. Abdullah Al-Karam, and Saeed Hareb, Secretary-General of the Council.

During the meeting, His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was briefed on the progress of work in preparing the Council’s new strategic plan, which is being developed based on the outcomes of the “Dubai Sports Retreat” and the study of the current reality of the sports sector and the prospects for its development.

His Highness directed that the details of the plan, its initiatives and objectives be presented to the sports sector, those interested in sports affairs, and partners in the government and private sectors, to enable them to contribute to achieving the strategic plan, developing the sports sector in Dubai, and enhancing its global leadership.

His Highness said: “Our plans, goals, initiatives and aspirations in the sports sector must be in line with Dubai’s position, its leadership and our global achievements, and we must redouble our efforts to achieve our future vision and enhance Dubai’s position and leadership as an integrated global sports destination.”

His Highness added: “Dubai tops many indicators of competitiveness, growth and excellence in the economic, tourism, cultural, educational and quality of life fields. We must put it at the forefront of global sports indicators and for the sports sector to develop in a way that is commensurate with Dubai’s global status and excellence in various fields.”

During the meeting, His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum approved changing the name of the “Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Sports Creativity Award” to the “Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Sports Award,” and organizing it within the activities of the “World Sports Summit.” His Highness indicated that the new name of the award is commensurate with its great global role in developing sports and honoring its champions in various sports fields.

His Highness also reviewed the preparations of the Dubai Sports Council to organize the “World Sports Summit”, which was directed by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai, on the 29th and 30th of next December.

His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stressed that this summit will be a global sports gathering with the participation of the most prominent sports stars, experts and decision-makers in sports around the world, and a platform to highlight the importance of enhancing cooperation to create a better future for global sports.

The Dubai Sports Council meeting also touched on the broad community participation in the initiative to design the new identity for Dubai Sports, and a review of the most important sporting events that Dubai will host during the coming period and the ongoing preparations for organizing them.
