This evening, the National Council for Persons with Disabilities launched its operations room to follow up on Egyptians’ voting in the 2025 House of Representatives elections abroad, which are being held over the course of the 7th and 8th of this November. This comes within the framework of the Council’s powers stipulated in Article No. (5) of its establishment Law No. (11) of 2019, and within the framework of the political leadership’s interest in persons with disabilities, and the directive of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, on the need for all state institutions to join forces to protect And enhancing their rights.
Dr. Iman Karim, General Supervisor of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, stressed the importance of the participation of persons with disabilities in participating positively in the House of Representatives elections, noting that they are a significant voting bloc, noting that the Council has taken many executive measures, which guarantee the integrity of the exercise of this right, in cooperation with the National Elections Authority.
She explained "Karim" In a press release issued by the Council, the Council intensified its efforts during the recent period by implementing many training workshops and seminars within its “Your Voice, Your Right” initiative, which aims to raise the awareness of people with disabilities about the importance of casting their votes in parliamentary elections, given the great importance this constitutional right represents in drawing the map of their lives, pointing out that the Council conducted training for its followers spread across various governorates of the Republic, on how to follow up on the voting of people with disabilities, and introducing accessibility facilities, It must be available within the headquarters of the electoral committees, as well as mechanisms for communicating with the Council, and how to fill out the follow-up form, prepared by the Council, to monitor the challenges facing people with disabilities, and work to overcome them immediately through cooperation and coordination with the National Elections Authority and the Human Rights Sector of the Ministry of Interior.
She added that this training reflects the Council’s keenness to follow up on the participation of people with disabilities, monitor the challenges they face, and raise their awareness through its ambassadors deployed in the governorates.
She continued that the Council is coordinating with all concerned parties, to overcome the challenges that are monitored while persons with disabilities are casting their votes, and to work to solve them immediately, to ensure the appropriate climate for them during the voting process, noting that the Council is an authentic partner in the national campaign “Share…your word,” which was launched by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, with the aim of raising youth awareness of the importance of participating in parliamentary elections, and this campaign works to include persons with disabilities within Its target groups.
It is worth noting that the Council cooperated with the National Elections Authority for the first time in the Senate elections in allocating information panels in Braille and sign language for voters with visual and hearing disabilities, which include the steps for expressing an opinion and voting procedures in the upcoming 2025 Senate elections, in addition to clarifying the number required to be chosen by voters with hearing disabilities for each electoral district using sign language on the back page of the card. Voting.
The Council also cooperated with the National Elections Authority in the Egyptian presidential elections of 2024 in implementing many facilities and facilitations for political participation, including issuing the ballot card in Braille for the first time, and providing electoral committees on the ground floor to facilitate the casting of persons with motor disabilities in the elections, and choosing their candidate with complete ease and confidentiality. It also contributed a number of observers to monitor any challenges facing voters with disabilities and cooperate with the relevant authorities to work on solving them immediately, after completing their training and qualification in practicing this.
