"Al Maktoum House" Participates in the Congress of the International Archives Council in Barcelona
Barcelona, 7 November / WAM / Darat Al Maktoum, which is supervised by the Executive Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, participated in the work of the Congress of the International Council on Archives, which was held in the Spanish city of Barcelona recently with the participation of a wide range of specialists, experts and representatives of archival institutions from various countries of the world.
The Darat Al Maktoum delegation participated in a number of specialized meetings and sessions within the Congress activities, which dealt with ways to enhance cooperation and exchange of experiences between archival institutions around the world, in addition to discussing the latest technical developments in the fields of digital archiving, records management, and employing artificial intelligence techniques in preserving and managing archival content.
Dar Al Maktoum’s participation in this global event aims to learn about the latest global practices in digital preservation, indexing, and document management, in addition to enhancing cooperation with international institutions with advanced experience in the field of archiving, and enhancing the presence of the Dar Al Maktoum in global forums, as a leading entity in documenting the institutional memory of the Emirate of Dubai and the Al Maktoum family.
This participation also comes within the framework of supporting the Dara’s efforts and plans to build a sustainable archive in accordance with international standards, and exchanging experiences with international experts in the fields of archiving and digital technologies, which contributes to developing the archival work system and enhancing the Dara’s role as a source of knowledge and an official reference for the historical and cultural legacy of the rulers of the Emirate of Dubai and the Al Maktoum family.
It is noteworthy that “Dara Al Maktoum” is concerned with coordination with relevant local, regional and international bodies, institutions and organizations, to exchange information and experiences regarding historical documents, with the aim of spreading cultural awareness about the documents of the rulers of Dubai, their books and their biographies.
The Department is responsible for issuing books, bulletins, and references on historical documents, and developing their cultural and media content, to disseminate the leadership experiences and humanitarian contributions of the rulers of the Emirate of Dubai, by providing information to researchers and those interested, and working in coordination with the relevant authorities in the country to establish cooperation mechanisms to achieve the goals of the Department locally, Arably, and globally.
It should be noted that the International Council on Archives is an international non-governmental organization founded in 1948, concerned with promoting archiving practices at the global level. Its membership includes national archives, professional associations, and archivists from various countries of the world, and includes more than 190 countries and regions.
The Council aims to develop records management and archive preservation effectively, while ensuring access to reliable information, preserving cultural heritage, and supporting historical and scientific research. It organizes an international conference every four years, which is considered one of the most prominent professional events in the world.
