FIFA decides to suspend UAE national team supervisor Matar Al-Sahbani… and Qatar player Tariq Salman

The Disciplinary Committee of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) decided to suspend the national team supervisor, Matar Al-Sahbani, for 16 matches and fined him 10,000 Swiss francs on grounds of unsporting behavior towards the competitor and assaulting the referee of the “Al-Anabi” match against Qatar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which ended with “Al-Anabi” winning 2-1 and qualifying for the World Cup for the second time in its history.
The International Federation stated on Friday that Matar Al-Sahbani’s punishment was due to “unsportsmanlike behavior and assaulting the match referee.” FIFA also decided to ban Qatar national team player Tariq Salman for two official matches and fine him 5,000 Swiss francs, after he was expelled in that match due to dangerous play.
The UAE national team is preparing to play two round-trip matches against its Iraqi counterpart next Thursday in Abu Dhabi and on the 18th of this month in Basra, in two playoff matches in the Asian playoff that qualifies for participation in the global playoff in order to compete for a pass to the World Cup.
FIFA punished the Saudi Federation by imposing a fine of 11,500 Swiss francs, for violating Articles 17 and 17.5 pertaining to (order and security in matches), specifically due to igniting fireworks or other materials during its match against Iraq, which ended in a goalless draw and saw the “Greens” qualify for the World Cup.
