Telephone call between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union

Dr. received Badr Abdel-Ati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Affairs Abroad, received a phone call from Mrs. Kaya Kalas. The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, yesterday, Friday, to discuss the bilateral partnership between Egypt and the European Union, and regional and international developments of common interest.

 

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the call dealt with the first Egyptian-European summit held on October 22, which reflected an unprecedented development in the bilateral partnership, as the Minister of Foreign Affairs appreciated the efforts of the High Representative and the European Union Foreign Service to strengthen bilateral relations and consolidate the strategic partnership that brings Egypt together. And the European Union, stressing the need to build on the outcomes of the summit and work to implement the memorandums of understanding that were signed in various fields.

The High Representative confirmed this, stressing the importance of Egypt as a major partner of the European Union, praising the pivotal role played by Egypt and played by Mr. President in supporting security and stability in the region.

 

The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his aspiration to hold the second summit in Egypt.

 

With regard to the developments in the Gaza Strip, the Minister of Foreign Affairs briefed the European official on the efforts made by Egypt to ensure the stability of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement, stressing the importance of fully implementing its provisions, stressing the necessity of moving to the second phase of the US President’s plan, including the political, development and humanitarian aspects, beginning early recovery and reconstruction steps, and ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip in quantities commensurate with the needs of the Strip’s population, reviewing Arrangements for Egypt’s hosting of the International Conference for Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza during the month of November, expressing his aspiration for the effective participation of European Union member states in the conference.

The call also touched on the ongoing consultations in New York to issue a Security Council resolution on welcoming President Trump’s peace plan, forming the Peace Council, deploying the international force and the Palestinian Administrative Committee.

 

The call also touched on developments in the situation in Sudan, where it was agreed The two sides stressed that there is no military solution to the situation in Sudan and the importance of implementing the Quartet statement issued on September 12 last and the necessity of preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national institutions. The two parties condemned the blatant violations that occurred in El Fasher during the recent period, and the need for the international community to play its role to put an end to these grave violations, and the deep concern over the tragic deterioration of the humanitarian conditions, and the importance of concerted efforts to reach a humanitarian truce and ceasefire throughout Sudan in preparation for launching a comprehensive political process in the country, and the importance of increasing the volume of humanitarian aid and ensuring its access to all parts of Sudan.

Minister Eid Al-Aty reviewed the efforts made by Egypt. Within the framework of the Quartet mechanism to support calm efforts and reach a comprehensive ceasefire.

Views were exchanged on efforts to achieve peace and sustainable development on the African continent, especially in the African Sahel region, where the Minister of Foreign Affairs reviewed the efforts made by the Egyptian state to support economic and development cooperation among African countries, noting Egypt’s full support for the efforts aimed at enhancing the security and stability of brotherly African countries, reviewing Egypt’s extensive capabilities and experiences in the fields of post-conflict reconstruction and development in light of its hosting of the African Union Center. For reconstruction and development, as well as the programs provided by the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Preservation and Peacebuilding in this regard.
