The Minister of Health receives his Latvian counterpart to enhance cooperation in the fields of health care

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, received his Latvian counterpart, Dr. Hossam Abu Merhi, and his accompanying delegation, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in various fields of health care between the two countries. This came on the sidelines of the activities of the World Conference on Population, Health and Development 2025, which is being held under the patronage of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, during the period from November 12 to 15, 2025, at the St. Regis Hotel in the Administrative Capital.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the meeting dealt with the issue of training medical service providers in various specialties, as the two parties agreed to exchange doctors and nursing teams between Egypt and Latvia to transfer expertise and develop skills. The two sides also discussed enhancing cooperation in the field of medical tourism, which Latvia is particularly distinguished in.

He added that the two ministers agreed to exchange experiences in the fields of urgent and critical care, heart disease, and oncology, and the Egyptian minister reviewed the state’s efforts. And its achievements in these areas, with a focus on the role of presidential initiatives in reducing infection rates through early detection of diseases, especially cancerous tumors of various types, and combating heart diseases.

He pointed out that the two ministers agreed to develop mechanisms to enhance cooperation with the World Health Organization and UNICEF, with the aim of supporting Egyptian efforts in providing aid and humanitarian relief to countries currently witnessing crises and conflicts. The meeting also dealt with strengthening cooperation in digitizing health care services to improve efficiency and data integration, and provide high-quality medical services to citizens, The two parties agreed to exchange support in the file of medicines and their registration in Latvia, benefiting from the high Egyptian efficiency in manufacturing medicines.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohamed Hassani, Assistant Minister of Health for Public Health Initiatives; Amr Sedqi, Secretary General of the National Council for Medical Tourism; Dr. Rasha Khader, Head of the Basic Health Care and Family Development Sector; Dr. Hanadi Mohammed, Head of the Medical Professions Development Sector; Andris Razans, Latvian Ambassador to Egypt; And Dina Gilousi, Deputy Head of Mission.
