Arab transport ministers discuss developing the transport system and enhancing logistical connectivity in the region

Cairo, November 10, 2017 – The Council of Arab Transport Ministers, in its 38th session held today at Al Manara International Conference Center in Cairo, discussed developing the transport system and enhancing logistical connectivity and intra-regional trade.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Noura Mohammed Al-Mashaan, Minister of Public Works of the State of Kuwait, while the Executive Office was chaired by His Excellency Lieutenant General Kamel Abdel Hadi Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Transport and Industry in Egypt.

Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Maliki, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Economic Affairs Sector at the League of Arab States, stressed that the League attaches great importance to deepening Arab cooperation in the transport sector, pointing to efforts to enhance land, sea and air connectivity between Arab countries and modernizing agreements regulating transport, in a way that supports trade and economic integration, in addition to moving towards modern mechanisms in the fields of logistics, cybersecurity, clean energy and traffic safety.

The ministers discussed a number of files, most notably the development of the electronic portal for Arab land transport, supporting the Palestinian economy, implementing the Arab agreements for land and sea transport, and the Arab traffic safety strategy, in addition to electing members of the executive office for the period from October 2025 to October 2027, holding a consultative session for transport ministers and a meeting of the General Assembly of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport.

Transport ministers, heads of delegations from Arab countries, and a number of Arab and international organizations participated in the meeting.
