Trump contradicts the Energy Minister’s estimates and expects fuel prices to fall immediately after the end of the Iran war

US President Donald Trump on Monday rejected Energy Secretary Chris Wright’s talk that gasoline prices would not fall before 2027, saying that Americans can expect them to fall as soon as the Iran war ends.

Wright told CNN yesterday, Sunday, that the price of gasoline falling to less than three dollars a gallon “may happen later this year, but it may not happen before next year.”

“I think he’s wrong about that. Totally wrong,” Trump told a reporter for The Hill, adding that prices were expected to fall “once this is over.”

While Wright acknowledged, during his speech to CNN, that “with the resolution of this conflict, you will see a decrease in prices,” there does not seem to be a clear end in sight to the fuel price crisis. The fragile ceasefire is scheduled to end soon, and the chances of another round of peace talks being successful are unclear.

Trump and his fellow Republicans are under pressure before the midterm elections in November after they pledged to lower prices. With a few months remaining until the elections, gasoline prices in the United States remain high, inflation is rising, and Trump’s popularity ratings are declining.

The American Automobile Association estimates that the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline today is $4.04, up from $3.15 a year ago. Oil prices jumped five percent globally today.
