North Sinai Governor: The Rafah crossing has been open from the Egyptian side since October 7, 2023

The Governor of North Sinai, Dr. Khaled Mujawar, confirmed today, Wednesday, that the Rafah crossing has been open from the Egyptian side since October 7, 2023, and has never been closed, but it is closed from the Israeli side for security reasons.

 

The Governor of North Sinai said – during an inspection tour of the Rafah land crossing from the Egyptian side, with the Singaporean ambassador to Cairo, Dominic Goh -: “We are conducting air drops for some areas that are difficult to reach.” To it, and recently we were able to achieve 168 airdrops in different areas in order to deliver all humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.”

He pointed out that Egypt is pushing by all means to open the crossing from the other side in order to receive patients, pointing out that about 600 trucks were supposed to enter daily, but this is difficult due to not using all the routes.

He explained that more than 5,000 aid trucks are preparing to enter the Gaza Strip, and there are also Ambulances are equipped to transport the injured from the Gaza Strip, noting that the trucks are examined upon their arrival to the Palestinian side and distributed throughout the Gaza Strip.

The North Sinai Governor said: “We coordinated directly with Israel and there was an agreement to enter humanitarian aid after the ceasefire agreement last month.” Major General Khaled Mujawar thanked Singapore for providing its humanitarian aid and political efforts, as it is another voice joining the international community to support the ceasefire and peace efforts. 

It is noteworthy that the Singaporean ambassador to Cairo, Dominic Goh, inspected the Egyptian efforts made to facilitate the entry of aid, the procedures for receiving wounded Palestinians, the Al-Arish General Hospital and the logistical aid warehouses.

This visit comes within the framework of discussing the practical measures of the peace agreement that was reached. During the Sharm El-Sheikh summit, ways to enhance humanitarian cooperation and coordinate international efforts to provide aid were discussed.
